Kea’s Pilates 10-Day Challenge was just what the doctor ordered. Mayo Clinic tells us that “regular exercise helps prevent or manage many health problems and concerns, including: stroke, metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, depression, anxiety, many types of cancer, arthritis, and falls. It can also help improve cognitive function and helps lower the risk of death from all causes.”

The trick is to find something that you like to do and will do regularly. Kea’s Pilates 10-Day Challenge was exactly that for me. Kea is a kindly drill sergeant; she gently persuades me to do more than I would ever do on my own. The “Challenge” format provides the recommended most-days-of-the-week exercise program. At the age of 75, I am so grateful that Kea does all the thinking and organizing; all I need to do is show up for class to maintain my health and fitness.

Hey, I’m an active, 63 year old guy, living in Colorado. Kea’s Pilates classes from Hilo, Hawaii on Zoom have been a great activity to keep moving while gyms are closed and normal activities are scaled back.

Normally I do stuff like biking, hiking, swimming, and all the gym stuff. But regular Pilates is something new. And it’s turned out to be great. It’s getting me to concentrate a lot more on core and supporting musculature, rather than just the big, compound, strength moves. Can’t believe what it’s done for my overall core strength. I’m almost to the point where I can do a roll up now! Before I started Pilates I could do sit ups on an inclined bench all day but I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do a roll up, my feet just wouldn’t stay on the floor. Now I’m almost there! Huge victory.

Daily Pilates core work is also making a big difference in all the other stuff. It’s like my whole muscle system is working together as a single unit in a way that it never did before. I’m liking this journey, and I really appreciate that Lokahi Pilates makes it possible by offering live and recorded sessions over Zoom. It’s my new thing!
